Greetings from Hand of God Wines!

While wineries here are preparing for harvest, we are busy waiting! Making wine in the Southern Hemisphere but living north of the Equator, our cycles are quite different but we remain busy nonetheless!

In November I will go to New York to see if the Big Apple is ready for the Hand of God!  This work is never done.  (Note:  if you have a favorite restaurant where you think our wine should be, please let us know!).

There’s a lot on the calendar for members of the VUDE (the Velvet Underground Dining Experience). If you’re a member already or wish to become one, click here to join us. This is where we’ll be in New York:

It’s still important however, to take a quick break from hustle and bustle to share some great recent press. The “Big Three” wine critics (Wine Spectator, the Wine Advocate and the Wine Enthusiast) have highlighted our wines as not only flashy and intense but worthy of being added to the cellar. That’s where the best wines go to age. See what they have to say!

A Summary of Reviews for our Inaugural Release:

Hand of God 2010 Old Vine Malbec – Stolen Horse Vineyard – Maipu, Mendoza, Argentina

Wine Enthusiast – 91 points
“Inky aromas of raspberry and blackberry. This shows firm acids and a racy, aggressive palate. Flavors of black fruits, espresso, lemon peel and salt finish peppery and with a licorice note. Give this wine two years and it should be less choppy and  more balanced. Best from 2015–2020.  Cellar Selection”

Wine Spectator – 92 points
“A flashy red, with racy acidity backing the crushed raspberry and blackberry fruit, with ample mineral, spice and floral notes on the tangy finish. Needs a year to bring it all together. Best from 2014 through 2019.—N.W.”

Wine Advocate – 92 points
“Raised entirely in new oak, it has an intense, heady bouquet with blackberry, peppermint, a touch of sous-bois and a slight fug of alcohol. The palate is full-bodied with layers of ripe black, tarry fruit. It is well-balanced and very harmonious. What could be overpowering is extremely refined and well-balanced towards the decadent finish. It will need three to four years to calm down in bottle. Drink 2015-2025.” - Neal Martin

Hand of God 2010 Fingerprint Red Blend – Sobremesa Vineyard – Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

Wine Advocate
“The 2010 Fingerprint Series Red Blend is a blend of 55% Malbec, 35% Syrah and 10% Petit Verdot aged in 50% new oak and 50% second fill. It has a very ripe, glossy bouquet that is loaded with glycerine. Notes of sloes, kirsch and fresh dates all vie for attention, combining to create a heady and attention grabbing bouquet. The palate is viscous on the entry. The tannins are bold but fine and support the multi-layered black fruit laced with dark chocolate, black pepper and a touch of sage. The texture is silky smooth, while the finish is impressive in terms of its composure and delineation, with a sprinkle of white pepper lingering on the aftertaste. Drink 2014-2020.” - Neal Martin

Tasting Panel Magazine – 91 points
“Deep, dark and concentrated, with ripe plum, blackberry and blueberry; rich, spicy and harmonious; long and balanced.” – Anthony Dias Blue

Wine Spectator – 92 points
“Dark, pure and racy, offering a fine-tuned core of raspberry ganache and blackberry puree, laced with hints of earth, cedar and spice. Malbec, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2018.  1,193 cases made.” –NW
